Spotify Wrapped

December just showed up and so did that same old excitement. This month has always felt a little magical to me. As a kid, I used to park myself in front of the TV every single day, bingig Baby's Day Out and the entire Home Alone franchise on whatever local channel was playing it. And those holiday movies slowly turned into an annual tradition, something I'd always looked forward to.

As I got older, December started to mean more than just movies. It became the season of Christmas—sure, it's a Christian holiday, but let's be real here for a second, we all looooove massive holiday discounts. And so do I as a Muslim.

But if there's one more tradition I always look forward to every December, that'd definitely be Spotify Wrapped.

I stayed up late waiting for it to drop last night. I couldn't wait to see which songs had defined my year. And when the list finally popped up, I wasn't even surprised to find Ariana Grande at the top, followed by Taylor Swift (I swear she has a song for every single mood), and a few other incredible female artists.

It's kinda wild to look back and see how much my taste in music has changed. Last year, though, my Wrapped was basically my brother's playlist: Muse, Linkin Park, A7X... full blast. But this year, It's totally different. It is way softer. It's mine; full of love songs, sweet, the kind of track that makes you smile alone on a bus ride.

Scrolling through the list, I couldn't help but smile, remembering the moments tied to each song. The opening lines of Positions by Ariana Grande literally echoed the rhythm of my heart. It was the song that marked a fresh start, a reminder of the joy I felt back then.

Then there was this German song—somoene's favorite. Somebody I thought I'd be with forever. But well, life had other plans. I'm happy with someone new now.

Spotify Wrapped wasn’t just a list of songs, it was a snapshot of my life. It captured moments of joy, heartbreak, and everything in between, showing how far I've come. And what about you? What's been the soundtrack of your year, and what moments made it unforgettable?
